Councilman Kevin Conwell is proud to have served as Ward 9 Councilman since November 2001.  His Ward includes the Glenville, University Circle and Little Italy areas.

The Councilman focuses his services to the Ward 9 community on family issues and economic development.  Notably, he has sponsored legislation to create the Mayor’s Taskforce on Responsible Fatherhood and to create a citywide, dual emergency phone system that includes the 311 and reverse 911 systems, which provide key information to Cleveland residents in emergencies.

Recently, Councilman Conwell worked to form the Advocacy and Legislative Coalition for the Disabled, which advocates for laws and policies that promote equality, access and economic security in health coverage for the disabled.  He received the Bright Light Award for the initiation of Cleveland’s Annual Disability Awareness Week.

Caring for the elderly citizens in his Ward has been a priority for Councilman Conwell.  He provides funding support to the Martin de Porres Center that has made it possible for more than 500 seniors to gain access to services.  For these efforts, Councilman Conwell received the Martin de Porres Positive Change Award for Community Service. 

Councilman Conwell has also made great strides toward job creation within his community.  Since taking office, the Councilman has sponsored more than 22job fairs that helped hundreds of residents find employment.  He has also supported Employment Connections, CEOGC and many other programs that help place people in jobs.     

Councilman Conwell graduated from Glenville High School and has two business degrees from Cuyahoga Community College a BA from Kent State University.An M.B.A Master of Management from Chancellor University, Councilman Conwell has also  received a certificate in Yellow Belt Six Sigma from Baldwin Wallace College and a certificate in Project Management from Cleveland State University in 2011.

In 2011, Councilman Conwell introduce a resolution denouncing Ohio S.B. 5, which would limit the strengths and abilities of public employeee unions. The councilman led a number of rallys and press events to draw attention to the issue and show unified support to the men and women who rely on unions to provide fair wages and benefits, thus keeping Cleveland`s neighborhoods strong and stable.

Before being elected, Councilman Conwell was employed by the Center for Families and Children as Operations Manager for the “Fathers and Families Together Program” where he coordinated parenting classes and job placement services for fathers in several locations throughout the City of Cleveland.  In 2001, Councilman Conwell was honored as National Father of the Year in Washington DC .

Councilman Conwell and his wife Yvonne  Conwell Couyahoga County Councilwoman District 7 live in Ward 9 with their children Kevin Jr., Krystle and Krystina. Councilman Conwell does not view himself as a politician. He view himself as a good decent man thats in politics.
